I Play Around with Pencil and Paper

7/16/20242 min read

When I was in my early teen years, I used to draw with a graphite pencil on paper. I still have a few of those drawings, and they might be the oldest possessions I own. I found them in my childhood room during our last visit to Cyprus.

These drawings are of random things like dreamcatchers, hands holding each other, probably belonging to a couple, unicorns, and crossed fingers - a sign of wishing to protect a desired situation. Looking back, I realise these weren’t random at all, but reflections of my actual dreams and hopes. While they might not hold any artistic value, they offer a unique glimpse into my past.

These drawings remind me of a time when I was full of dreams, even in the face of challenges and hardships. They capture a period of my life that was marked by resilience and a desire to find beauty in the world around me. Each sketch tells a story of who I was and what I wished for, despite the difficulties I faced.

I often think about how these early interests and dreams have influenced who I am today. The act of drawing was my first step into the world of creativity, a world that I now explore through photography. While my medium has changed, the essence of capturing and expressing my inner thoughts remains the same.

Feel free to share your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think about these early glimpses into my past. Below, I have included some examples of these early drawings, offering a visual window into my teenage creativity.
